Plan the Waste Before the Skip
A clear description of the load helps avoid problems at delivery and collection.
- Separate unusual items first
- Agree heavy waste before loading
- Keep disposal paperwork
What can go in your skip?
The right waste, loaded safely. Tell us about anything unusual before it goes in.
Everyday project waste
- Wood and DIY offcuts
- Cardboard and packaging
- Metal and general clear-out waste
- Garden cuttings
Describe the full load before booking so the waste can be agreed.
Agree these first
- Soil, bricks and rubble
- Plasterboard
- Mattresses and upholstered furniture
- Electrical items and tyres
These may need a separate load, specialist handling or a different service.
Keep these out
- Asbestos
- Paint, solvents and chemicals
- Gas bottles and batteries
- Fridges and freezers
Do not put these in a general mixed-waste skip. Arrange the right disposal route first.
Mixed waste or a separate load?
Wood, packaging and general project waste are different from a load of soil, rubble or plasterboard. Tell the operator about each type so the right skip and disposal route can be agreed.
If you manage waste for a business, confirm the paperwork and duty-of-care requirements that apply to your waste. Do not rely on a household guide for a commercial or hazardous load.
Tell us what you’re clearing.
Have your postcode, waste type and preferred date ready.
