Your driveway or the public road?
A skip kept entirely on private land normally does not need a road permit. You still need the landowner’s permission and safe access. A skip placed on a public road needs North Lanarkshire Council permission first.
Check delivery accessAllow time for the council application
North Lanarkshire Council’s current roads-permit page lists 28 days’ notice for a Section 85 skip permit. Plan ahead and confirm the timetable before agreeing a road delivery.
The published charge is £143.33 per 28-day period, payable before the permit is issued. This is the council permit charge, separate from the skip-hire quote. Check the current charge when arranging permission.
Do not assume it is included. Confirm the applicant, the placement dates, the full cost and who will supply any required safety equipment.
Council information checked 20 October 2026. Charges and requirements may change.
Road safety and parking
The council’s skip application conditions cover positioning, markings, cones and lights at night. Check the conditions attached to the permission for the exact location. Do not block access or assume an existing parking restriction can be ignored.
A permit does not automatically settle parking arrangements. Confirm any bay suspension or other parking permission for the address.
Skips on wheels and short loading visits are different arrangements. Do not assume either removes the need for permission or parking checks. Describe the proposed setup before booking.
