Your Skip Hire Questions, Answered
The details that help you choose a skip and prepare for delivery.
Which skip size should I choose?
Start with the amount and type of waste. Compare the skip sizes and guide dimensions, then describe the job when you call. Soil and rubble need particular care because they become heavy quickly.
Can the skip go on my driveway?
A driveway can be suitable if you have permission to use it, a suitable surface and safe lorry access. Tell us about the entrance width, gates, parked cars, slopes and overhead cables before booking.
Do I need a permit in Cumbernauld?
A skip on a public road needs North Lanarkshire Council permission before it is placed. A skip on private land normally avoids that road-permit process. Read the local skip permit guide and agree who will arrange permission.
How long can I keep the skip?
Agree the hire period and any extra-day charges when you book. If you need more time, call before the agreed collection date rather than assuming the hire will continue.
Do I have to call for collection?
Agree this when booking. If you have not arranged a fixed collection date, call when you are ready. Keep access clear and allow for the collection notice agreed with the operator.
How high can I fill the skip?
Keep the load level with the top edge and within the agreed weight limit. Do not stack waste above the rim or use boards to make the sides higher.
Can I put plasterboard or a mattress in?
Tell us before booking. Plasterboard and some bulky or upholstered items need separate handling. Do not add them to a general mixed load without agreement.
What is included in the price?
Ask for the full quoted price, VAT treatment and what it covers. Agree delivery, hire time, collection, disposal, any permit and charges for restricted items or extra time before you book.
